Exciting news! Summoner of Storms went up for preorder on Amazon last night. Readers who order today will find this third installment in the Catalysts of Chaos series auto-delivered to their Kindles on October 22nd. Stay tuned for details on a fun contest to celebrate the release!
It’s been a long wait. Nearly two years have passed since we first met the Mistress of Masks in Catalysts of Chaos, Book 1. During that time I’ve written two more novels, concluded the Legends of Dimmingwood series, contributed to six boxed sets, and multiple audio books and paperbacks. But now, no more goofing off! Betrayer of Blood: Catalysts of Chaos, Book 2 has finally arrived on Amazon, B&N, iBooks, and Kobo. I hope series fans will find the new book worth the wait. And if you do, keep an eye out for Book 3, Summoner of Storms, due for release over this summer/fall.
Have a great week and a great read!

Hello all! I’m taking a short break from writing Betrayer of Blood (Catalysts of Chaos Book 2), to do something I haven’t really done here before – a series of posts on the evolution of a book cover. Hopefully everyone will enjoy getting a peek into the process. The cover I’m sharing is for a not-yet-titled release in the upcoming Villains of Dimmingwood prequel series (coming in 2017). All artwork in this post is by the excellent Michael Gauss, who’s done 11 (and counting!) covers for my books.
How does the process work? In the beginning, I describe my characters and setting to Mike. He does several early sketches of possibilities for the cover and we choose the one that best suits the book. This part is always tough because, when I first get the sketches, I want all of them!
Here are several early drafts done for the Villains of Dimmingwood cover:
Although I was intrigued by the top two, I loved #3 the most, so we narrowed it down to that one. Here’s an early look at the work-in-progress with color added.
Next week, I’ll post more progress pics, as the cover continues to take shape. See you then!
Rule of Thieves (Legends of Dimmingwood, Book 6) is out now! A big thank you to all my readers who followed along on this journey through Dimmingwood and stuck around for the conclusion to the series. I hope everyone enjoys this last adventure of Ilan’s.
And never fear! Ilan’s story may have ended but the world of Dimmingwood will return in a brand new super secret project to be announced in 2016. (You did not hear the word “prequel” from me.) Meanwhile, sharp-eyed Dimmingwood fans will recognize some familiar locations in my latest series, Catalysts of Chaos. Want to be kept in the loop on these new books?
